Information from Ghostwheel

As most know, Corwyn felt it necessary to inscribe a new Pattern in order to maintain the balanace of Order and Chaos during or after the Patternfall War. No one knew the side effects, although many in Amber, as well as some in Chaos, guessed that it might be a difficultly.

Since then, Corwyn's Pattern has provided a second stable Pole of Reality, slightly upsetting the balance of Power in the Shadows towards Order. However, the new Pattern is still very young, and growing in strength. As it does, it does not seem to be affecting the Balance as it should seem to; instead, a new Balance seems to be taking place - much to the consternation of the people in Amber and the Courts who have been watching.

Ghostwheel became involved in this when he asked (King) Merlin why he had not been allowed the second set of Shadows to be placed in his programming. Merlin was suprised, the more so to find out that a second set of Shadows had been detected beyond the new Pattern, similar to the ones known and yet different in many ways. Ghostwheel informed Merlin that he had found out about them by watching ***** and ****** attempting to study the lands beyond. Shifting shadow was hard in the other Realm, and the Logrus did not work as expected. Trumps, however, work as easily as before.

Additionally Ghostwheel had been running information on everyone he could, in both the Courts and the true city, and compiling this information. To ***** and ******, he brought the rather disturbing information that the youngest generation of both Amberites and Chaosites were dying in unusual numbers (even for Chaos, as few of them had proven to be assassinated). It was unclear why these deaths were happening, or how, but in the few cases where a cause could be determined, it appeared to be by an agent previously unknown. Suspicion fell on the lands beyond Corwin's pattern, but ***** and ****** were unable to do much, in part becuase of their duties. It was decided on that, as the youngest generation were the ones facing danger, the youngest generation would be the ones who could solve the problem, with Ghostwheel as the immediate contact, although likely at his terms.

The four of the younger generation were picked out to go, and are expected to rebel against the dictates. They may rebel as much as they like, but should realize that their lives are also in danger, and if they do nothing, the only thing that they will have as an advantage is forwarning that something is gunning for them. It is expected that, at the very least, care for their own mutual skins will propel them forward.

The four chosen are as follows:

Corliss, son of Caine. His mental powers are honed and well trained, although much unused outside of his home. He may be able to use trumps to a better ability.

Leon, son of Bleys. While very young, he is of age. His understanding of mid-tech will be of assistance in some of the worlds that are known beyond the edge. Again, his mental abilities may be of some use. He has received some instruction in Trumps, and has the artistry to create them, should he ever figure out the trick.

Fam, Chaosite of House Chanicut. His knowledge of weapons should serve the company in good stead, should he be able to keep his polarities under control. It can only be hoped that the last of the party will be able to assist him in gaining more of that control, which he purports to desire.

Lawrence, Chaosite of House Jesby. Of no particular importance, and no particular skill, Lawrence has been included as the Logrus Master. His adventurous nature will stand him in good stead, as he has taken a number of risks and survived, so we expect he will be able to come through the difficulties of using the Logrus in more or less decent shape.

Addendum: Since this party was put together, there has been an unexpected addition. Taggert, an Amberite of unknown origin, was compelled to join himself to the group after the apparent consideration of rescue, presumably of Leon. From the little known of him, he has an instictive grasp of tactics, and could easily be the best of the youngest generation in the arts of warfare. It is not known what effect on the party he will have at this time, but it is expected that he will prove to be a factor of providence.
